Review of WW2BW

Fred Setterberg, rock star author of “true-novel” Lunch Bucket Paradise (see our 5/2012 post) magnanimously and thoroughly reviewed We Wanted to Be Writers for literary blog Talking Writing. Our favorite line—among countless worthies: “By opting for the long view, covering the inceptive motives and misgivings of thirty writers and teachers—the celebrated and the obscure—We Wanted to Be [...]

Bill Manhire‘s Selected Poems has been released to much critical acclaim–far more than our predictable, but heartfelt huzzahs. And New Zealand’s former poet laureate has been super busy with all kinds of other poetic pursuits as he prepares to retire as head of Victoria University’s writing program to join the ranks of full-time wordsmiths. <<>> Oct 2 – TC Boyle reads [...]

There’s an aspiring young SoCal novelist who thinks We Wanted to Be Writers is swell. Monique Muro says in her review, “Perhaps the most gratifying thing about thumbing through the trajectory of how [the writers interviewed in the book] succeeded is how much aspiring writers can glean from their experiences.” Nice to connect with our target [...]

Good reviews will never get old. This one by Jason Rice of Three Guys One Book has the added advantage of being frenetic, sexy, and profane. Bottom line? He says We Wanted to Be Writers is a “great book.”

Rosebud Review

By ww2bw on September 20, 2011

Favorite line from the Rosebud Book Reviews piece on We Wanted to Be Writers? “More than learning something you will find yourself in good company and part of the best discussion about writing you’ve ever had” (ok, emphasis ours, for obvious reasons).

Jennie Fields writes, “My editor called from Fire Island to say she just finished reading the final draft of my new book and LOVES LOVES LOVES it. Now, if she can do for it what she did with Secret Life of Bees and Bridget Jones’ Diary, I’ll take you all to Paris to celebrate!” [We plan to hold her [...]

For those of you who—like us—were appalled by the brevity of Eric‘s NPR interview, here’s the unabridged version commissioned by the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing at Ohio State University and conducted by Molly Patterson for “Writers Talk.” Programs aired August 22 and 24, 2011.
