Sherry Kramer

Sherry Kramer was born in Springfield, Missouri. She holds a BA in English from Wellesley College, and received her MFA in fiction from the University of Iowa Fiction Workshop in 1977, and her MFA in Playwriting from the University of Iowa Playwrights Workshop in 1978. She is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a McKnight National Fellowship, a commission from the Audrey Skirball-Kenis Foundation, and was the first national member of New Dramatists. She has taught playwriting at Northwestern University and the MFA programs of Carnegie Mellon University and Catholic University, and teaches regularly at both The Michener Center for Writers, University of Texas, Austin, and The Iowa Playwrights Workshop, where she was head of the workshop. She lives in New York City and Vermont, and currently teaches playwriting at Bennington College, Bennington Vermont.
