An environmental journalist by trade, Mindy Pennybacker is the author of Do One Green Thing:  Saving the Earth Through Simple, Everyday Choices (St. Martin’s Press, 2010). She’s editor and founder of the green lifestyle website and blog, www.GreenerPenny.com and a columnist for Martha Stewart’s Body + Soul Magazine. Mindy is married to Iowa classmate Don Wallace, a fellow 1978 graduate of the Writers Workshop with an MFA in fiction. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by her mother and her grandparents, who owned Halm’s Kim Chee, the islands’ premium Korean food manufacturer. When she wasn’t studying hard or working in the kim chee shop, she surfed her brains out. She graduated from Punahou School, the elite academy founded by missionaries and Hawaiian royalty that is also President Barack Obama’s alma mater. Mindy also holds a BA in English Literature from Stanford, where she later returned as a Stegner Fellow in Fiction. She and Don have recently relocated to Honolulu after 27 years in Manhattan. Their son, Rory Donald Wallace, studied history at Stanford and works at a hedge fund in New York City. Mindy’s fiction and journalism have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Fiction Magazine, Bamboo Ridge, The New York Times, The Nation, Sierra, Worldwatch, Natural Home, E. Magazine, TheDailyGreen.com, and elsewhere.
