    Fine stuff.

I was a bartender at the Airliner in Iowa City in the late ’60s and fell in love almost every night after work.

A waitress named Sue invited herself home with me one night.

About 3 a.m. she said I “didn’t threaten her enough.” As she put her blouse back on I said I suppose this means I don’t have to start planning our lives together and was right.

The next night she went home with the other bartender who had her same last name.

The next afternoon she came to work with a black eye.

They didn’t invite me to their wedding either.
