Short version of a long story: Four years ago when I stumbled clumsily into social media and web-goddessing to promote We Wanted to Be Writers (husband Eric is lead author), I did so with massive trepidation, moderate disdain, and no hope of reward. I only knew it was necessary.
At AWP in Washington DC, I attended back-to-back-to-back-to-back sessions on how best to approach the Sisyphean task of book promo and a learning curve so steep I was sure I’d topple over backward.
Months flew by; I trialed and errored my way to minor competency, and somewhere along the line started to enjoy the journey. At AWP in Chicago, I met virtual friends for the first time and the conference that had seemed so overwhelming the year before turned into a lit party extraordinaire.
Now the 140-character Twitter missives that were once so intimidating are like word games—challenging, creative, fun. And I find myself in a community of über-supportive, imaginative word slingers who continually enrich my life in unexpected ways.
Which brings us to one of the best of the crop. I “met” Judy Clement Wall when her blog was still called Zebra Sounds, shortly before her Year of Loving Fearlessly. She has since undertaken many month-long challenges in the name of badassery, all the while writing guest posts, essays, interviews, pieces for HuffPo, book reviews—the woman’s an omnipresent dynamo!
Turns out she’s a master doodler as well. She even has a shop on Etsy. But most fundamentally, Judy is a big-hearted giver with a Grand Canyon-size smile. LOOK WHAT SHE MADE to help us celebrate the publication of Best of Books by the Bed #2! Thanks, J. I love hangin’ out with the cool kids!
And the best part of all? She’s in the book! Really. Starting on page 86. And she’s in great company: 27 other writers with 60 books of their own among them talking about books they love and why. Enter a friend in our Great Grateful Book Giveaway with a twist for the feel-good contest of the season!
