Gary reports, “I just finished reading Summer Crossing by Steve Tesich. Interesting in that he was a Big Ten guy (Indiana) and of all things he wrote the screenplay to The World According to Garp and ‘Breaking Away.’
There were wrestlers in this novel so I wonder if John Irving had an influence on him. Also I think he died young.
I will read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain next because Kristine Romani (an avid and picky reader) enjoyed it.
I have Jennie Fields‘ Crossing Brooklyn Ferry a third of the way through, but was reading it while traveling and my attention got broken. I know the world she describes and I’m dying to get back to her novel.
I treated myself to Robert B. Parker’s next-to-last Spenser novel, Painted Ladies. Looking forward to Sixkill with great anticipation—and dread; there will be no more. In my office I have a shelf of all 30 of them.
